We've had some great entries so far - only seven days to go to the closing date on 17th September.
This shot shows the cane reeds that are necessary to vibrate the column of air in a bassoon so that it produces a sound. If you're lucky and have your hands in the right position with fingers covering the relevant holes, then a musical note will be produced! If you're extra lucky this might actually be in tune with the other players. Do this repeatedly, using the tongue to separate the columns of air, and remembering to take a deep breath every now and then, and you are "playing" the bassoon. (The reeds are bound in different colour thread only by a matter of choice - this reed-maker uses the colours to denote different types/strength/character of the reeds).
Many thanks to all who have commented in recent days. I have been travelling this weekend so may not have caught up with your own project yet - I will catch up this week!
We've seen him in concert with La Serenissima a few times and my absolute fav piece is on their album Vivaldi, The French Connection 2, Concerto for Bassoon, Strings and Continuo in C RV 473. I think I'll play it tonight now I've thought of it!
