Teston village itself boasts a number of historic connections. Sir Randolph FitzUrse, one of the knights who murdered Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral in 1170, lived here. His house later passed to the Butler family, who supported the Royalist side in the English Civil War in the 1640's and were involved in the lead up to the Battle of Maidstone in 1648 (also ref earlier note on East Farleigh).
Teston was until recently home to the smallest Trade Union in the UK - the The Teston Independent Society of Cricket Ball Makers, which was established in the early 20th century by workers at a local cricket ball factory and only delisted in 2006.
Many thanks for all your recent comments etc. All are very much appreciated.
Such an interesting history to this place. I can just imagine horse and carts travelling over that pretty bridge in days gone by. You've captured it so well.
