Old and new

A major earthquake devastated Kefalonia in 1953, and very little of the infrastructure survived intact. I was delighted and surprised to come across this building in the village near where are staying. The sign above the door carries the date of 1902. And the scooter parked on the front veranda just seemed to cry out for a photo.

By the way, those not familiar with Kefalonia can find an intro through the medium of book and film in "Captain Corelli's Mandolin". Thankfully, the Islanders have resisted the urge to get on the Captain Corelli bandwagon.

Many thanks for all your recent comments and good wishes - all very much appreciated.
brilliant find, love the tones and textures here
Glad you are enjoying your holiday

Nice building and interesting information! Liked the captain Corelli book but are glad for you that the whole island isn’t one big tourist trap because of it.

Nice find. Brought to mind a village scene in Cyprus too. Good to see this building survived the earthquake.

What a contrast between the building and the bike - I wonder if the building is still used
