The Calder & Hebble Navigation (canal) at Elland, Yorkshire. You can see here various original canalside buildings which have been converted to more modern usage.
I am standing on a Grade II Listed bridge which was severely damaged in flooding at Christmas 2015. As it was a listed monument, as many of the original stones as were fit for use had to be re-used in the new structure. The canal was closed for around 6 months, and the road over it for over a year as the new structure was built. The new bridge was located 25cm (1") further south than the old one, as apparently this made sense from an engineering sense (I can't quite imagine why!).
I've desaturated the colours and warmed the tone slightly to give the image a bit of a dated feel. Other than that, it was grey, cloudy, and raining as I took this!
Many thanks for all of your recent comments, all very much appreciated.
A very interesting capture. On the right side of the canal, just behind the barges, I spotted the gate being raised. Are there barge can mooring inside?
