concert

So, yesterday was rehearsal, today was concert.

London Schools Symphony Orchestra +Alumni
Conductor: Nicholas Kraemer
Leader: Charlotte Amherst
The Barbican Centre, London

This is us in full flow at Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks. There are 9 bassoons, 3 double-bassoons and (I think) 16 oboes. It was great fun!

This is a bit of a cheat of a photo as I obviously didn't take it. But I did want this to be part of my 365 collection. Thanks for checking it out!
A lot harder doing what you do Peter. Do you ever play Violin Concerto's, these are my favourites, Tchaikovsky, Scheherazade, Mendlessohn, Brahms.

@runningbk Mike, those are great Violin Concertos. Live music is such a treat, there will be something going on near you! Thanks!

@paintdipper Thanks, Junan, it was a dramatic noise, as well!
@bardejov Haha! I'm second from the left along the top row of bassoons.
@allisonrap Allison, it was very nostalgic. I last played with this orchestra in 1977 !!!
@paddleandsnap Thanks, Lynne!
@lizzy_lu123 Thanks, Lisa!

Oooh the Barbican! So that's what it looks like on stage. Must have been a wonderful trip back in time for you remembering playing there as a youngster (I'm assuming that's right?). Such a marvellous opportunity for school students to do something 'big'! I'd love to get to a concert there, or anywhere in London for that matter! The best I can do is sit in on a dress rehearsal at Covent Garden in 2 weeks where a friend of mine is singing opera. But that will do this little Aussie's musical heart a treat!

@tulipgirl Alicia, yes it was quite emotional, although back in my day we played at the Royal Festival Hall. The LSSO organisation was 60 years old last year and it has trained many of the players who today play in the top orchestras all over the world. So, you get to enjoy a rehearsal at Covent Garden - that is really special - hope you enjoy your trip!

Beautiful setting - Is that wood panelling? Must be a lovely experience playing somewhere like that.
April 19th, 2012
@positivemoments Tracy, the paneling around the back actually include the concert organ pipes. Cleverly done, I think. It was a lovely experience, thank you!

Thanks Peter. This brings back such wonderful memories for me. I used to attend the symphony quite often and loved every minute. Alas, that was in another lifetime. Maybe one day I'll have the opportunity to go back.

It would have been wonderful to hear so many reed instruments together. I know when I played the flute many moons ago, I attended a few concerts where dozens of flutists were playing. It was awesome.

@lazydaisy0413 Marie - I'm glad it brings back nice memories.

Wow Peter, I'm so jealous that you play in a symphony orchestra! Is this at the South Bank Centre? I saw the Singapore Symphony Orchestra there at the end of 2010, blew me away.
April 26th, 2012
@kirstyalexandra Kirsty, it was at The Barbican Centre. I agree - big concert moments are awesome. I like the Southbank Centre, there is always so much going on.
