lightart 3

This is an experiment with a technique that I think is called "zooming". Well, it's another bit of light Art, anyway.

Thank you all for your comments over the past few days, I really appreciate it.
Very striking indeed.
Is this two photos merged ?
I cannot figure out how you did the lights.

Yes, my hair looks like that some mornings, complete with static...

This is fascinating. What are the filaments, in reality?

@jdonnelly Joseph, you have a zoom lens on the camera. I also had a flash bounced off the ceiling. In manual mode, you set a fairly long exposure, once you hit the shutter release you zoom the lens (in this case out) whilst the shutter is open.

@carmel This is a bunch of twigs covered in micro lights, and zooming as per explanation above.

Very creative and cool shot! I read about this technique in a photo mag this past summer, but haven't yet tried it. I may have to give it a shot. :)

@kwind Thanks for the Fav!

you opened the shutter and retracted the zoom before it closed? I've never done this, how do you not get massive camera shake?
August 23rd, 2012
@chewyteeth The camera's on a tripod.
August 23rd, 2012
yeah but don't you need hands on to twist the lens focal zoom?

Very creative Peter! Was your wife around??!! I've had a little play with this technique, it's a bit hit or miss but great fun! Makes for a great abstract photo, well done for trying something new!

Oooooooo aren't you the clever one?!! Amazingly well done, how on earth do you think of all these slightly batty things to do?! :) a fav!!
August 24th, 2012
definately good squeazy squeazy!
August 24th, 2012
@chewyteeth You do - just be gentle! In fact, in a blog discussion it is becoming clear some people do hand hold, and that also becomes part of the effect.

@fannyb Thanks for the Fav, Fanny!
August 24th, 2012
@peadar - that's interesting... I've only tried zooming in which has had limited success, so I must have a go at the reverse way!
August 24th, 2012
zoom burst is a very hard technique (for me anyway)... this is brilliant!
