Canal series: lift bridges are fairly common along the rural canals - they provided a cheap and effective way of permitting travel across the canals and were often required to gain a land owner's consent for the canal construction. Most are nowadays left open (like this one) and they usually operate on a "balance beam" method. Some are more industrial in scale and technology, particualrly where they carry road traffic.
