Groundhog Day by peggysirk

Groundhog Day

OK, so it's not a groundhog ~ I think they're all snowed in. Actually, we don't have groundhogs around here so I'm using local wildlife for my forecasting purposes. This nasty little possum did not see his shadow. Maybe that means an early spring.
Disclaimer: Photo was taken a few days ago so the prognostication might not be accurate. :)
lol Peggy we dont have groundhogs but everytime i hear "I got you Babe" i think of that film! Actually we dont have possums either!
Cute shot x

i think we dont have those here in my country, philippines, but i could be wrong. gives me the creeps when i see animals that i'm not used to seeing. very nice flash & framing.

What a good idea. There was no way you would have found a ground hog yesterday. Nice photo.

Aww, I love opossums--and I'm probably the only one that does!

Oh, that is cute! I hope the little one is right about "early spring"! :-)

I think he's rather cute!

@glyn Well, the front part isn't too bad...it's the back end/tail that's a little skanky...and that happens to be hanging over the other side of the wall. :)

@rafaelseno These possums kind of creep me out, too, Rafael ~ and I'm used to seeing them. :)

Great idea....well, we have tons of groundhogs around here and I haven't seen a one! So you know what that means......LATE SPRING! =(

So did you lure him with the bird food or is he a regular visitor? I used to volunteer at a local nature center where we had an opossum in the rehabilitation center. We would hold the little guy so the children could see the pouch. Thinking back I can't believe I did that!

Interesting pick for us foreigners - how big is he? Are we talking skunk relative?
February 2nd, 2011
He looks sweet enough! If you look at the tail of the opossum one would think it was an oversized rat.

Great, clear shot of your little visitor Peggy! We get them all the time, along with skunks and raccoons....they come around at night and eat the cat food! We call ours Petey. I think they fall into the 'they're so cute, they're ugly" category! I think groundhogs are definitely cuter and probably more accurate predicters though! :)

I have not seen an opossum in quite some time...come to think of it that is ok with me! Nice to see you are helping to keep the wild life fed during the winter months. Wish they were a sign of early spring! Fun shot to see.

So ugly he's cute! Possums would be more tolerable if they weren't so darn mean!
February 2nd, 2011
i think they are cute mind you i have only seen them in photos.....
February 2nd, 2011
Lol to funny and what a great shot!! All our groundhogs did not see their shadows so early spring I guess. We will wait and see on that!

Bold little bugger :) Great shot! I hope you got it through a window . . .

Cute capture. Quite different from our possums and not nearly as pretty, but has its own attractions. Love that mean look and you can see the little teeth at the front.

This has got to be a early spring Great Capture

Great shot!

Happy Possum Day! :) I sure hope it is in early spring. I don't think the east coast/mid west can handle much more winter! :) Awesome shot of this little cutie!
February 3rd, 2011
Aww he's cute. Not sure what I would think of him if he was in my back yard though!
February 3rd, 2011
Oh my gosh Peggy! I can't believe that you were able to just snap a picture of a possum!! I think I would have to go to a zoo to do that. Amazing picture, and very clever my friend!!
February 3rd, 2011
Ewwww, Peggy...but it is a great capture!!
@clarissajohal ...YES, Clarissa...I think you may be!! haha
