I learned how much I don't know about my camera. From now on we aren't allowed to shoot in anything but manual. Yikes! Top photo is my first ever manual shot.
After class I met Tom for lunch across the street from The Light Factory (where classes are held). It's only a few blocks from his office. The bottom left photo is part of the arts complex where The Light Factory is located. The bottom right shot was taken with different settings. I haven't figured out which, if any, are the correct settings. :) So much to learn.
I think that bag of chips looks lovely. You are going to do great! I can't wait to see your work after 6 weeks of classes. Harper will be ready for her close-up :)
Good for you Peggy, I'm too chicken to take a class! You'll do great since you're already a natural when it comes to photography. BTW, this is a great collage.....and shot in manual no less! :)
love the picture and your sheet of paper. I wish I had a good photography class in the area to take. good luck look forward to your future pics and TIPS please
First, you make me laugh! Love your notes in the top photo. As far as correct settings, I think "correct" lies with the photographer and what pleases her. Which one do you like best?
I am so impressed Peggy. You will do great!! As always, I was searching for your watermark right away, and you have it cleverly placed as always. I think manual is frightening, but I find myself using it more and more. Baby steps.
Great shots and so happy for you that you are taking a class! Hope you have fun and enjoy getting know your camera! I use manual mode, but am learning on the fly, so would like to take some classes soon! Your collage turned out great!
A few days ago there was a discussion on this site about thank you replies. After seeing how many people were annoyed by their notification boxes being filled with annoying and time consuming notices of generic thank yous, I agreed that I would stop thinking I was being polite by responding to those who commented on my photos...unless they asked a specific question. I like to be polite and was most sincere in thanking people for their time and/or interest, but I certainly don't want to be annoying. Anyway, the request to not send thank you replies has been incredibly difficult for me. And in the case of the comments above, I'm going back on my agreement....Thank you all so much for the wonderfully encouraging comments. As my daughter, Molly ~ in the thank you line up above ~ can verify, following the first session I was rather disheartened when she called to see how things went. It felt like I should be in the remedial group instead of the intro class. I was shocked by how little I knew about my camera, having always used auto settings and relying on editing to make improvements. So, thank you for the very kind words of support and encouragement!!! They are very much appreciated and uplifting! I'm ready to stop pouting and work on my homework assignments. You guys are great...and I mean that sincerely. :)
@peggysirk Hey girl, I enjoy your remarks and humor. I like taking the time to respond to people, who take their time, to make a comment on my photos. It does not take that much effort. Keep on doing what you do..
GREAT first manual shots! You are off and running! I have no doubt that you'll be figuring out so many things so quickly! Really, once you get started with manual you'll be so frustrated with "Auto" shots that you'll never return to them! Good luck - but mostly just keep having fun!
@peggysirk Hi there. I read a lot of that discussion board, and I will admit that it is annoying to go to the notification page to just see a huge group of names with a "thanks", but with about two handfuls of people on here, I feel like it's a way of communicating, and they actually put more thought in to their viewing. I think you need to use your own judgement as to when a reply is warranted. Your gut will let you know. :)
@petersonsheri I agree with you, Sheri. The generic "@@@@@@ thanks, everyone" is time consuming and annoying for both parties. But there are definitely many people with whom I want to stay in closer contact ~ you among them. I'll figure it out. :)
Seriously, possum butt on the popular page surprised the hell out of me. I saw a few new names commenting on that photo and thought "no way"...I checked and there it was in all of it's balding, flea ridden glory...??? :)
. @peggysirk@petersonsheri - I just wanted to add my 2 cents in about the 'Generic Comments" discussion. I always WANT to reply back to comments on my photos so people will know I have read what they said. But, like you Peggy, I am going to try to restrain myself since it seems to be so annoying to lots of people. Just for the record...it doesn't annoy me. Feel free to send 'meaningless and generic’ comments to me anytime...LOL. I only have a small group of followers and a small group of people I follow. I like to keep in touch with them...even if it seems like a "meaningless" comment sometimes; I always mean it from the heart. And I feel the same way about the comments I get from my followers. Not everyone has time to sit down and write out a long, thought-out comment. I just appreciate knowing that someone saw my photo or read my comment.
Anyway…Peggy, I am so excited about your photography class and can’t wait for you to share with us what you learn! And the possum butt on the PP...PRICELESS!!!
Have fun!
