Abandoned

This little egg is in one of the planters on the patio. I believe it belongs to a mourning dove who apparently has no further interest in it. I've left it alone for a couple of weeks hoping the mother would return to it at some point. Looks like it's a lost cause. Guess I'll plant around it just in case...
What a marvelous illustration for the theme! We just recently had a mourning dove leave an egg in the feeder...seems there's a bit of that going around! I'm only sorry I didn't think to get a photo, too...well done! (Thanks, too, for your nice notes! Going to see my grandbaby next week!)

Omelette? Well how great to have it for the theme though - if they are like our pigeon-type doves they will have built a useless nest. Nigel made me take a youngster to the emergency vet last year (injured falling out if the hopeless nest) - we stuck it back in the nest after its treatment and the parents came back and carried on as normal. I know some birds are very intelligent but these are not going to win any prizes for brainpower!

Well, bummer. Hopefully the mama is OK. I like Mourning Doves. In Wisconsin where our cabin is, they can be hunted, which I will never understand. I have never thought of them as a nuisance bird, and they mate for life. When I see one sitting alone I always have to tell myself that it just hasn't found it's true love yet. Ugh! Wish I was tougher!!

Well captured. I don't have a lot of faith in Doves. But it is kind of sad.

Beautiful photo the other colors are such a nice contrast to the egg! If it were me, after a few weeks I would make my husband move the egg because I would be too sad to see it all of the time and not brave enough to move it my self.

Nice capture. Mourning doves are not the brightest of birds although they’re pretty and have a nice song.

If I recall correctly, doves have a reputation for being lazy birds. Their nests are a mess, easily destroyed by the slightest wind or breeze. So it doesn't surprise me that they might abandon an egg. Anyway, awesome shot, especially for the theme.

great theme shot...how sad

Beautiful shot....sad story. If the mother abandoned it, it is highly unlikely that it will hatch...but I'm not sure how it works. it's a really interesting shot.

Ah, too bad ....but on the bright side it is a beautiful theme shot! Don't give up hope, maybe she just lost her way and she's trying to find her way back?
