The Old Man Down the Street by peggysirk

The Old Man Down the Street

For years, every time I walk by this Weimaraner's house he lurks, sight unseen, behind the hedge that borders the fence, waiting to startle me with his booming bark. Even knowing he's there, and thinking I'm prepared for the barrage, he surprises me every time. On Sunday, rather than stalking me behind the shrubs, he was standing up at the gate waiting to say a polite hello. I didn't realize until then just how advanced in years this old boy is...maybe he knows his days are numbered and he was telling me how much he has enjoyed being my pace maker over the years. I hope he has a couple more years in him...I've grown accustomed to his jump starts. :)

Three good things:
1. A January day that actually feels like January
2. A date tomorrow with Harper and her mommy for story time at the library and lunch
3. Having the opportunity this morning to visit a very special lady one last time in hospice...

Such a great character face & he is a very pretty colour. His eyes look old , you can tell he has a few years behind him...I hope he continues to frighten you Peggy!!!!! Prayers for your special lady. Enjoy tomorrow!

This is a gorgeous shot of the old boy. I think you ought to offer a copy to his people. I know as a dog owner myself, I would love it if someone gave me a beautiful portrait of mine.

What a handsome dog, and a great shot you got of him. On my drive to work, there used to be a dog that sat along the side of the road. He was there every day for years, and then one day about 2 years ago, i stopped seeing him. I still look that way instinctively when i drive by. I stopped one day and got a few quick pictures of him. Glad i did. I'm enjoying your Three Good Things Peggy. Thanks for sharing them.

What a great ol' guy. You could offer a pic to his owners - and ask if you can take some dog biscuits to him. :) I hope your hospice visit went well...do you volunteer with hospice or is this a special friend?

Give him a treat every time you go by and he will stop that, its all about the bribe.

@bpaquette Barbara ~ it's the wonderful mother of a very good friend. I'm not sure that she was aware of my presence, but it gave me a chance to hold her hand for a moment and tell her it has been my joy to know her.
I like your and @lisjam1 Lisa's suggestion of giving a copy of this to my Weimaraner friend's family.

@peggysirk I am sure the visit was bittersweet...thinking of you and your friend.

This is amazing . Funny how someone else's dog can become apart of our own lives .....I hate the idea of saying goodbye to anyone or anything . Your 3 good things made me a bit teary eyed today , but in a good way ;)

Oh he is so cute and love your entertaining story. Ours is a January week that reminds you of what January weather was 30 years ago, freezing. Glad you enjoyed your library visit with Harper. Sad to read about your hospice visit. Like Janet I can't say the goodbyes.

Instant fav! Fabulous detail and what a timely capture of this old guy who I'm sure could tell some us some great "unshaggy" dog stories. Hope he has more years left & would love to see more of him in your future photos.

What a fantastic shot. A real character! He looks rather skinny - hope that's not a bad sign. Your third good thing makes me sad although hospices are amazing things for easing the inevitable.

Almost like he was posing for a portrait! Lovely.
