Antibodies or No Antibodies? by peggysirk

Antibodies or No Antibodies?

...that is the question. I went in for a six month Pfizer Vaccine Study antibody check this morning. There will be another check in six more months, and again at twenty four months. Research is showing protection holding steady at the 6 month point. Hopefully my immune system is following the trend. ☺
Three Good Things:
1. A wonderful phlebotomist
2. A well run vaccine study
3. About 40% of Americans have received at least one shot and roughly 1 in 4 are fully vaccinated.
Cool that you were involved in the study and nice to see your numbers, country-wide. The New York Times stats from today show that Canada has less than 3 in 100 fully vaccinated. Yikes!

Good to know that Peggy...just related it to Harry who has had both his Pfizer shots...good work! We are doing well here too with vaccinations, we are up to doing the 40 to 45 year olds now.

Thank you again for participating in the study Peggy! Everyone I know was miserable for the twenty four hours after their second Pfizer...were you?

@bkp I had no reaction to the first dose leading me to think I was in the placebo group. I was actually glad to experience a very brief low grade fever and some slight malaise with dose 2. 🙂
Neither lasted longer than about twelve hours.
I was also tipped off to the fact I was getting the real thing when I had to wait about 90 minutes for my second dose to finish thawing.

I keep quoting your experience to my friend who is procrastinating as you’ve had a long post vaccine experience. Do they look at T-cells as well do you know?

@judithg Yes, they are looking at both memory T cell and B cell responses. Hopefully there will be some long term immunity to severe disease. 🤞🏻
After seeing what is currently happening in India, I can’t imagine choosing not to get vaccinated if given a choice.

@peggysirk oh there’s going to be some fascinating papers when the study is complete. I agree re India - our problem is going to be that cases have dropped so low that it may not seem necessary but it seems we have 90% of over 45’s vaccinated already and high demand from over 40’s so fingers crossed.
