I returned to our state capitol building today looking for inspiration. I had noticed these light fixtures on a previous visit and wanted to take a closer look today. I like the repeating shapes and the way the light reflects off the marble walls. The building was much brighter than it appears here. I'm not quite sure why the photo is darker, but I do like the effect of the warm light in the dark corner.
There are reflections to enjoy all over the place in the walls and globe. I like your exposure, but if you expected it to be brighter, it is probably because pointing into the light fooled your light meter into thinking the area was bright, and gave you a small f stop.
@rvwalker Thank you for the help understanding my result, Ross. I figured it must be that. I have not gotten to the point where I think about that at the time I shoot, which most times works against me. This time, I think it's better this way. So much to learn and then apply...
I think Ross is correct- the camera's built-in light meter reacted to the light and balanced the shot accordingly. But I like it that way and think that it's the perfect lighting for the shot. Nice shot!
Oh I like this ..alot.. I'm curious, how did you manage to shoot it at eye-level, were you on a stair or something?..The lighting and clarity is beautiful!!
There are a lot of neat things to see here, the reflections on the wall, the reflections on the light itself, the textures, the golden tones, the round shapes. Lovely composition.
