I was viewing the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial when I noticed this little girl reading the inscription. I loved how focused she was on the words and the way the the light fell on her. Just at the moment I raised my camera to snap the shot, her well meaning mother saw me and rushed in to take her daughter out of the way. She didn't realize that her sweet child made the shot! I would have liked to compose it better, but I only had time for this one capture. I do still like the contrast of Roosevelt's powerful words and the innocence of a child.
BWW - It's Wednesday so another black & white day for me. For anyone who wants to join in on the Wednesday theme, please tag your photos 'BWW' (no "&" sign).
I have taken my students there several times. It is a wonderful tribute to FDR. My students like standing in the breadline statue.
This is a wonderful capture. I love the textures and lighting. A definite fav for me!
Great capture! you wonder whats going on in her innocent little head. is she confused? is she surprised. can she visualise the devastation? I love the use of b&w for it.
Does BWW include selectively coloured shots? I couldn't resist keeping in a piece of purest green in my photo from 1st May but would happily include it in your BWW.
What a fantastic capture! You have a well-trained eye for the philosophical in an artistic framework - juxtaposing innocence with brutality. Very cool!
The light on the little girls blond hair is very beautiful - totally identifies her as a little girl underneath such poignant and moving words ... whoa!
What a striking image. You're right -- the child is important in realizing that this message will be read, and we hope it will be remembered by the children of today.
@danielwsc Thank you, Daniel. I agree 100%. I wouldn't even have thought to take this without the little girl. She is the shot to me. Glad you like it. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to look at and comment on so many of my photos. I know it is overwhelming to get back to 365 after an absence. It's hard enough to get around to everyone's album on a daily basis let alone catch up on many posts so I was really honored that you would spend the time with my images. Thank you!

Had to FAV it!
