This is a peek over the fence into a little yard, decorated with strings of lights. I liked the festive feeling of the lights and the repeating lines & shapes of the fence and brickwork. The lone red rose draws the eye to the window which reflects the neighbor's window. This was a very white scene that I processed in B&W, leaving just the rose in color - the first time I've tried selective coloring.
Thank you all for your comments and FAVs on my California Poppy shot yesterday!
Nice patterns and I love the lights - bet it looks great at night. The selective colouring is really effective - not something I've ever tried but I do like the impact of it.
Funny, but I didn't notice the rose straight away. I was instantly drawn to the fence, with the light reflections and the contrast between the black & white. I like the SC of the rose, makes it stand out.
Fab shot. So many elements to look at, love it and as Lee said earlier, despite being in colour, the rose was not the first thing taht popped out which makes it even more interesting
That window reflection really adds to this piece.
And the rose is like a cherry on top!
I've got to figure out how to do that selective coloring. Nice!
This is such as interesting and appealing shot. There are so many elements that make it. The fence, the lines, the lights, the composition, the selective coloring. Very creative!
The fence is my favorite part. It seems to me that you had a difficult choice to make. If you wanted the reflection, you had to stand where you did, but that placed the rose against the window frame when it would have shown up better against the plain wall. I think you made a good choice.
@rvwalker Thank you, Ross. I always appreciate your thoughtful comments and analysis. For me, the rose was just extra in this shot. I really liked the lights and the fence and how those lines balanced each other. The window reflection and rose were extras. I think there is a lot (maybe too much?) gong on in this shot, but I still like it.
