This view is just a short walk from my home. I have included shots up and down the canyon throughout my album, but this is the first time from above. The sun was positioned just so to work on a flare over the canyon wall. I am pretty pleased that after nearly a year here I can now create that effect when I want it!
Such a beautiful place Lisa and a wonderful capture, how lucky you are to be able to photograph this view and how wonderful to be able to capture it in the snow too. Even more fabulous on large.
Lisa I wish you and your family a very happy Christmas and New Year. Will you be continuing on here? I am so far behind on my project but really do want to finish and possibly still continue to post when I can.
I came back to this photo several times before commenting. The image is really striking with wonderful detail in the frost and a remarkable balance between light and shadow areas. I googled Black Canyon and all I find are images of a different dam. Is this the Boise River? Fav.
Great to be able to see the canyon from different angles. This is a great shot I love how you have the foreground interest and then the main scene out and beyond.
@elaine55 Hi Elaine, thank you for your comment! So nice to see you posting again. You have been missed. Definitely keep going and finish your project! Whenever that happens is fine so don't stress about it! I do plan on continuing. It is just too much fun to stop! There is lots more I want to learn and try, too. That said, i am planning on a little break in the new year. Time to recharge, organize photos, etc. I wonder if I can stay away for long though. :) Merry Christmas to you and yours!
@ingrid2101 Thank you for that compliment! I can return it to you heartily. I have so enjoyed following you. I do plan on continuing after a short break. I feel the need to recharge and focus attention elsewhere for awhile. I doubt I can stay away long though. How about you? I hope you are continuing as well??
@rvwalker Thank you, Ross. This is the Boise River and the dam is called Diversion Dam. I am not sure that the canyon is officially called Black Canyon. I call it that and I have heard others refer to it that way, too, but don't know if that is official. I have also heard it referred to as "Lucky Peak Canyon" and the "Black Cliffs". I think if you google any of those places - particularly the dam - you will get information about the area. Hope that helps. Thanks for your comment and fav!
Renewed my Ace subscription the other day, I don't think I could stay away if I tried! Total addict - glad you're staying around too! I think jan 1 will be quite exciting with loads of new faces too
Thank you, Vijay! It's really quite easy. It helps to have something placed in front of the sun like the tip of the canyon rock int this case. Set your aperture to f/22 (or close to that). Take a number of shots slightly adjusting your position if need be. You can tell that the sun is flaring. Warning it can be hard on the eyes. I didn't have sunglasses on and came away with a bit of a headache from staring into the bright light.

Merry Christmas, Lisa!
