wild bulls

A few people from our camera club went to a nearby county fair that had "Extreme Bull Riding" in the grandstand this evening. I got lots of pictures but they all had this very busy background which I didn't exactly know what to do with. Selective color didn't look right so I tried softening the background.
great capture, the processing worked really well so the focus is on the bull and the rider :)

nicely done... just watch that the bull doesn't get softened too (ie tail)

Superb action shot and I understand what you are saying about the background. Another approach might be to resist the tight crop and include a little more of the background, suitably composed, to make it part of the picture. (Just a suggestion).

@icywarm Thank you....I did go around it but it was blurry in the original, I assume it was moving at a different speed as the rest of it :)

@wordpixman Thanks! Yup, I intend to do that with others. Many include the cowboys watching above with some interesting expressions:) I cropped this one close because it was one of the few that didn't have much blur (only the tail blurred).

That is really good, Pamela. Nice experimentation with the processing.

Wow, amazing capture! I really like the softened background, I think it makes the bull pop!

Ususally there is a lot going on in the background at something like this, but your editing really looks good. Perhaps croppng in a littl emore as well, but really , it looks cool.

I really like what you did- Focus is on the subject! What did you use to soften it selectively?

Awesome! The clarity of the bull and rider is fantastic!

@jannkc I used "Soften" in Picnik. I did the reverse, then just outlined the subject with the effect (tedious) then it was easy to fill the rest with the effect. You could do it without using reverse and fill the subject with the effect but I find it easier the other way. Did that make sense?

superb capture - love the movement! I've tried this blurring background with a few of my shots - it does give a tiltshift feel -but i really like it!! nice one!!
