THE HEAT OF THE FIRE by phil_howcroft

THE HEAT OF THE FIRE

I thought I was going to get a really good image today (Saturday) as we visited an old priory on the Notts / South Yorkshire border. The priory is renowned for its woodland walks between carpets of 'snowdrops'

The adverts in the local press assured everyone that the displays of 'snowdrops' were still beautiful because we'd had a hard winter and therefore they were late arriving.

Well you'd expect me to post a carpet of snowdrops in the woods, however as you can see from the posting I had to settle for an abstract picture of a bonfire that was burning in the woods.

Dissapointed? You bet I was. Most of the snowdrops were dead. I've sent an email complaining !!

So you are stuck with a mediocre close up of a burnt log and the flames that surround it.

I did take a reflection picture of the priory in a lake in it's garden, but I did a couple of reflection pictures at the start of the week
At least I feel warm looking at that!

@kerristephens Thanks Kerri, how did i photograph it? Well it was an open fire in the woods so just held my cameraabove the fire (very tightly) and pointed down :)

@jenlyn999 Thanks Jenniffer, it was fairly easy to shoot (I took quite a few shots and t his is a crop to get the diagonal log).

I salute you Phil for your adaptability. The flames here are wonderful. I can almost feel the heat. I love their transparency against the mottled black of the burnt wood.

Its a fine fire shot, good capture.
Have tried some like this with differing degrees of success, this looks great.

@allie912 Thank you Allison. The picture seems quite popular, but I'm still unsure.I do like the patterns on the burnt log :)

@sleepdozer57 Thanks Peter, I threw a few bits of sticks and twigs on the fire to get the flames to engulf the burnt rock. So there ws a bit of 'pre processing' rather than 'post processing' :)
