GRAFFITI UNDER THE BRIDGE (YES IT'S ANOTHER CANAL SHOT) !
I'm still managing to squeeze out shots from the canal near the office with my mobile phone.
Today I turned right and walked north rather than south. So you've not seen this area of my canal before.
Today I was on my own as neither of my 'walking colleagues' from the office were at work. The canal is in quite a deep cutting so walking on your own can be a bit daunting, especially when you do a quick photoshoot under one of the bridges (bridge number 82 apparently).
The graffiti on the concrete colums makes for an 'interesting photo'...OK not that interesting, but the purple and blues do make the image brighter and help it work as a colour image.
If I had time and the ability, I'd probably attempt to clone out the blob of white bright sky reflected in the canal, but I'm sure it's OK to leave it in for a 365 photo !
I really ought to try and photograph how dirty the canal is, it is littered in places with debris, bottles, plastic bags etc............hmmm is that another photo opportunity another canal shot :) ?
The little HTC desire mobile got this just about right in an 'underneath the bridge' sort of way !
..the graffitti columns look well, highlighting the concrete urbanness..
They often seem redundant, but they are much used as walk/jog/cycle ways and hang-outs.
Plenty options for photos here.
@sbconifer Sheryl , lol , I don't think the canal features highly on the American tourist list of places to visit in Englan, but I am sure I have more to show of the stretch of water
@gill Gill, I'm glad you appreciate the canal scenes. As for it being a 'Iovely looking canal' I think I am making it look better than it actually is with carefully selected locations, careful cropping and some decent light. I'll continue to post images of the canal on here as long as I can keep them different and fresh :)
Wow I love this. I haven't gotten tired of the canal yet. You need to photograph what you see. I shoot down by the hudson river almost daily because I live right near it, but I feel like it is always changing. You always seem to show us something new about the canal!
Do you think the graffiti is the work of one individual (I hesitate to use the term "artist") who keeps returning to create his chef d'oeuvre or do all canal taggers work with the same color scheme? It's an interesting thought (and an equally interesting capture)
Nice work, Phil. I am not a graffiti fan but this whole composition works very well with the color/design of the graffiti, the color of the foliage in the background, and the big reflection in the murky water (is is murky or just appearing that way?). Your walks along the canal are giving you great angles to shoot from. :)
@allie912 Thank you Allison , indeed we should not call them artists. There's no official access to the far side of this canal other than scrambling down the bank by the bridges or through peoples gardens, so they have to trespass to break the law !
@rachschofield Cheers Rach, I cannot remeber there being many canals in Bolton when I was a lad ...there was a nice photogenic brook in Bradshaw though :)
