THE VIEW FROM THE NUMBER 58 BUS by phil_howcroft

THE VIEW FROM THE NUMBER 58 BUS

We went into Nottingham after work for a meal to celebrate my wifes birthday.

We went via public transport on the bus (the number 58 bus), so we could enjoy a bottle of wine with the meal.

The buses into the city are double deckers and being a bit of a 'geek' I like to sit on the top deck on the front seat, because you get a great panoramic view through the front window !

You can get some nice pictures from the front seat (as long as it's not raining - no windscreen wipers on the top deck !)

I took 24 pictures on the 3 mile trip into the city (yes I did say 24 pictures !! - I told you I was a bit of a geek !!) and this was the first one I took. It's not necessarily the best but I've posted it because there's a lot to see and describe.

This is High Street in Arnold, on the left hand side is the car park entrance to ASDA (Walmart) and some beautiful cherry blossom trees. On the right hand side there is the Arnold Salvation Army , a gents barber, a unisex hairdressers, a pub / snooker hall, Arnold Labour Club an opticians a dentist and a chemist.

This is not the main shopping street of Arnold (the main shopping street is further to the left of ASDA.

I posted this picture mainly because of the blossom trees contrasting against the green ASDA sign ! The tree and sign may only be a small area, but I like way it frames the image and helps lead you down the road.

The image has been cropped and the saturatoin boosted a bit to compensate for taking the picture through the bus window !!

BTW: Nice meal in Nottingham in a French restaurant !

BTW2: Only 4 other passengers got onto the top deck on the journey into the city.

@sparkle Thanks Juliette, it was my little Panny Lumix, so she's used to it coming along with us :)

@phil_howcroft ha ha - that's the only way I get away with this project if I bring the Lumix - if the SLR comes out the eyes start rolling!!! Camera jealousy is such a bad thing!! LOL

Great photo Phil. Arnold looks quite nice here.

..just like the normality everyday capture, with that Spring reminder/marker. Top deck rider drinking wine..be careful out there.

I love the ordinariness of this - capturing anew the detail of the everyday. Lovely colours, too, like the greyness of the sky.

@kerristephens Thank You Kerri :)

@jenlyn999 Jennifer, ha ha , I've never heard anybody desribe Arnold as a quaint town :)...some bits are, but others are not !!!

@gill Thanks Gill, it's nice to take unusual shots and I think the top deck of the number 58 provided a good viewpoint. I think the blossom trees make the town look far better than what it is :). The food and wine were both excellent :)

@anron Anita....good line ... 'Arnold looks quite nice here' ..I think you know how Arnold looks like :)
April 14th, 2011

you could always get a job as one of those bus commentators for tourists! lol 'and on your left, ladies and gentlemen, asda' and you tap your back pocket!!! :-)
April 15th, 2011
Interesting shot and heading towards letterbox crop Phil!! And we know you want to sit at the front on the top because you want to pretend to be the driver - it really is the only reason!
April 15th, 2011
@Cherrill great ides Cherrill LOL. it would be 'extra special' passing by ASDA on the bus :)
April 15th, 2011
@jupton8 Julie, glad you like my long descrioption
April 15th, 2011
@judithg Judith, thanks for your support. Yes it is almost letterbox...but you went one better and did a red 'postbox' ..ha ha..as for driving the bus, we were sat on the right hand seat on the front row ...'fares please :)'

Good shot. It's been years since I was on a double decker bus. My most memorable was when I went home with my son and we sat on the top deck at the front from the train station to the airport in London. Wow! Much better than the ride downtown in Whitehaven.

Love this street shot and all the action you captured. Well done.

Love this peek into daily life in Nottingham. Great contrast of Nature on the left and houses on the right. And the peek of cars behind the trees makes a interesting comment.

@sueb Tope deck , front seat, best view on the bus for sure :)
April 16th, 2011
@seattle Thanks Constance, it is a busy shot, but not much 'people' action to be seen.
April 16th, 2011
@allie912 Allison, thaans for your comments and it's good how you see different things than me, i never really spotted the contrast between the left hand side and right hand side of the street.

The trees on the left hand side are hiding the big ASDA (Walmart) car park.

only 24?
April 16th, 2011
;-) Love it! I adore the top front seat on a double decker too!
