Arnot Hill Park, Arnold, Nottingham, goes infra red

This is Arnot Hill Park, Arnold , Nottingham - the Rose Gardens.

The roses are not quite ready yet, there was a lot of green in the colour image and not many rose flowers, which made me think of trying an infra red conversion in photoshop elements.

The infra red conversion was quite easy as PSE has an B/W infra red conversion button. Once pressed I adjusted the contrast and brightness a tad and that was that !!!

I don't know if there is a focal point of interest in the image, but the sky is good with the vapour trails / slip streams and the white bushes and foliage seem to work (well I think they do) .

This was shot on Saturday afternoon as we walked with Ruby to 'Pets at Home' to return the faulty 'indestructible toy bone' we purchased the week before !

I think I will have to do a re-shoot in a few weeks time when the garden and roses are in full bloom :)
Great idea ..a before & after !! This shot really shows the foliage off well & the gazebo stands out well in the background !

It is a beautiful sky for this landscape, Phil! Funny about Ruby's "indestructible" toy!

When I took a photography class in college, I was looking at a book and it was talking about (say it with me this way) "in-frared" photography. It looked so intriguing so I drove over to the local photography store all happy and asked the folks about "in-frared" photography. They asked, "Infra-red?" I said, "No, in-frared...uh...yes." What a weird word. I think it needs a hyphen. :) I think I then quietly left the shop.

I don't know why, but this puts me in mind of Greece. Whether I'm wierd or not.. this does work well. Was the dark tree right of centre red leafed?

@happypat thanks Pat, yes I must do a 'return picture' :) , Phil

The infra-red gives it an interesting, slightly surreal look!

So, did the shop give you a refund/replacement bone for Ruby?
May 22nd, 2011
@robinmersh Good spot Robin, yes a purple / red tree :)

@orangecrush Jerry thanks for your kind words

@meredithwb Meredith, lol yes a toy the was indestructible got trashed by a skinny little whippet !!! If you have a lot of greens in your picture then "in-frared" (lol) can work ..in fact you don't need greens to make "in-frared" work . You should try a conversion...I'm sure you can do it especially with your good eye for a photo :)

@jenrobcarr Jennifer, it's quite a nice park, a municipal park (belongs to the people of the borough), lets hope it retains it's beauty and is kept well maintained with all the cut backs we are getting
May 22nd, 2011
That really shows off all the textures. Looks slightly surreal to me :)

@jupton8 thank you Julie, it was quite an easy conversion
May 23rd, 2011
@sparkle Juliette, I did not really notice how good the sky was until i converted to B/W
May 23rd, 2011
..i think the sky is great, but best is the kind of two V's - sky and hedgerow thing giving it a nice balance.
May 23rd, 2011
Really interesting shot. Great work!
I laughed about the indestructible toy, and I guess you cannot do HDR on PSE as you have it.
May 24th, 2011
The sky makes this shot.

@sleepdozer57 thanks Peter, yes the two v's do give it a nice balance..good spot

@whippeteer Frances, we've not found a toy yet that Ruby hasn't demolished..she quite likes shoes and slippers too....her best party piece to date is, the minute we've finished our tea (we call tea tea in the midlands) she jumps off the settee and starts biting my feet and barging into the wife as much as to say...right it's time for my walk now !!! obviously she wins !

@seattle thanks Constance , it is a nice sky :)
