A picture taken on our early evening walk with Ruby.
Shot on a long zoom, on St. Mary's recreation park, Arnold showing three youths having a 'kick about'
The long shadows of the evening sun helping to add a bit of atmosphere to the image
A few minutes before Ruby had been weaving in and out of the youths as she raced around the park. I think she was showing off a bit, she would gallop up to them (with her ball in her mouth) and then at the last minute swerve around them (a bit like a tricky but fast left winger in football). The youths thought it quite funny that she wanted to weave in and out of them !!!
I would like to have got a shot of her galloping between them, but was concentrating on calling her back to chase after me rather than them !!
They had jumpers for goal posts, which was quite good for a sniff for a whippet !
I like the dimensions of this image Phil. It gives a real sense of the field. Also think the greenery is a great setting for the action. BTW, what are jumpers? I thought it was the British equivalent of the American sweater, a lightweight knit jacket. Or did you mean they tossed their clothes down for goalposts?
You don't need much to have good time do you ? A ball & some jumpers for goal posts & off you go ! Great composition. When are we going to have a close up of Ruby Phil ?
@happypat thanks Pat, yes you don't need much to amuse yourself when it comes to football :)...I've done some Ruby pictures in the past, but yes I am due another one of her :)
Didn't we mention jumpers for goal posts a while back?? lol Your dog sounds a delight...is she a whippet? Love the bloke in blue, hands on hips, c'mon guys give us a go!
Wahey - can't beat jumpers but having a male dog I do panic about leg-cocking over them (although Monty is nowhere near as bad as some others at that mostly because if he's in the park off-lead I have the famous hoops out!) Talking of off-lead - you have let Ruby 'run free' - bet she's loving that - and you, apart from the stress!!
Fab observation Philip whippet would have done more than sniff the jumpers he was a devil for cocking up his leg and leaving his calling card on make shift goal posts! Very embarrassing the girls are more civilised!! I would loved to have seen Ruby's weaving technique bet she'd have left Georgie Best standing! Does she chuck in the occasional spin on a sixpence move? Pearl's speciality!! :-) Philip used to try and rob the football too it had to be fairly flaccid to allow him to get enough purchase on it!!
@phil_howcroft oh the panic stricken hours spent in York searching for missing whippets...but still we let them run free. Billie and David still give Nick the slip and leg it to the university in Norwich from Eaton park. He got a call once from the chemistry department to say they had found David wandering around on the 3rd floor!! The security guards have banned them for frightening foreign students!! If they do a runner he hides nearby and lures them away he had to hide in a bush last time!! There are rabbits a plenty which is what they are after. Such naughty little dogs :-) but I still love em!
She doesn't seem as fast as our previous whippet, but she is a little smaller than Lucy was, so perhaps she will get faster with time.
It is nerve wrecking letting her run free, especially as this is a popular spot for dog walkers and especially as Lucy was bitten twice on this park
