If the park is relatively 'dog free' Ruby has a 'whippet run'.
Here she is tonight, enjoying her evening a gallop on the local recreation park - Arnold St. Mary's Park (the park has appeared on here a few times on my 365)
Anyway, I set my camera onto shutter priority (1/500 th of a second) and clicked away trying to get a decent image of her in full stride.
Here she is ball in mouth, galloping towards me. You will notice she wears a dog harness while out (a Dogs Trust Harness - where we rescued her from) as it is easier to control her when she pulls towards pigeons / cats / dogs or other furries !! She also has a nice girly pink collar :)
Hope you like this shot. I'm going to post another image from this photo shoot on a 'free day' (Tuesday this week) , so forgive my indulgence in posting two whippet pictures !
She looks a very sturdy dog Phil, in fact looking at this photo I wouldn't have found it easy to guess she was a whippet unless I knew already ! Great enjoyment in that picture, its lovely !!
Oh that is tremendous Phil - well done. It is so hard to get a sharp focus at this angle - her lovely brown eye in the light is nice and crisp! I have leather whippet collars for ours but they are devils for pulling if they see wildlife they would like to chase and dispatch. For running I use a waist harness and I do have running harnesses I can attach but they are not keen and they are no good for controlling them. Pearl is the best on the lead Billie is terrible she wanders from chicken bone to chicken bone and anything that might be food inbetween and zig zags her way along ripping your arm off as she goes! I tend to couple them which has mixed blessings, half the lead tangle but double the trouble should they fancy bolting... They are getting a lot better as they get older and mostly trot along obediently. Ruby looks jolly fit!
This is a super action shot, Phil. She looks like a rottweiler with her muscles so sleek and developed. Love her ears back and 3 of her feet off the ground. Well done!
@cath thank you Catherine, i took a set of pics the day before of Ruby running, but the light was dull and grey and it was hard to get sharp and fast shutter speed images in the dull light
@phil_howcroft Gosh even better! I want more :-)
Pearl looks very similar on full pelt. They look like they are similar in build Pearl is quite muscular and stocky really, I'd call her robust - but she is not a fattie like the others (Nick seriously overfeeds them but I cannot get him to stop he equates volume of food with volume of love!) But she is not one of those papier mache whippets that seem to be very thin, light as a feather and finely boned. I'd like one of those light weights too of course...
She's beautiful, Phil, and I know you and your family love her to bits. I haven't yet tried to take a photo of Shadow running toward me but it's on the list. We'll see when that happens! I love these action shots. Nice one!
@meredithwb Meredith, thank you very much for your kind words. Yes we love her to bits, we all love our pets don't we :) ....I look forward to seeing Shadow running towards you :)
I edited the photo and messed about with contrast and lighting and managed to get some detail in the other eye......see here for revised pic.......
