Horse Eye by phil_howcroft

Horse Eye

This is a 'horse eye'.....it sounds like a drink of whiskey from an old cowboy film...but the nearest thing to a cowboy here is a horse that we encountered on a Sunday afternoon walk.

The horse was in a field and I shouted it over to the gate ...I think it was looking for food...but all I could offer was a few gentle pats on it's head and a bit of chat !

Anyway he let me do a macro shot of his eye and then I waved him goodbye !

BTW: This is a colour shot...the horse was B/W

The horse was in a filed at the bottom of this path.......

For some reason Phil this is a bit creepy for me!! I think it might be because you can't tell it's a horse & it just looks like an eye staring at you!!! Very good photo though & you have caught all the coarseness of the hair beautifully !!

I love this shot and how you caught the mane over the eye. Great macro.

Beautiful closeup

This is somehow beautiful and sad at the same time. The way the eye is down-cast, I think. it's a great close-up, and perfectly cropped.

Amazing close up. I just saw the movie Secretariat and I'm feeling rather partial to horses right now.

Oh, I just love this, Phil. Even though you focused on such a small 'piece' of him, you captured his gentleness perfectly.

@sparkle Juliette, you are right it is a bit different for me...I remember seeing an image of an elephant eye in a camera magazine a while back , so when the horse came to see me the shot seemed natural to do

@steveh steve the gate to the field says 'do not feed the horses', so I suppose I had to respect the owners instructions....it was a very friendly horse though

I love this Phil, I knew straight away it was a horses eye. I love the spread of the mane and the really precise detail you have shown in the shot, yet it is very tender - a fave for me!
