50 mono portraits at 50mm : No. 34 : Flat Cap, Glasses and Beard

Well that's it the football season is over. Today was my last visit to the Macron Stadium for season 2014-2015.

Bolton Wanderers lost 1 nil to Birmingham City in a dire last game.

It did give me an opportunity to grab a mono portrait for my series. This is a programme seller who willingly let me take his shot,

Edited in Rawtherapee, using natural skin tones and then some adjustmeting of sliders and finally a film emulation of Ilford Pan F Plus 50

Excellent, Phil. The textures really lend themselves to the B&W treatment, and his frank and merry gaze is a pleasure to see. A fav.

Thanks for your comment Phil. Not being here very much seems to have lost me all my comments! Another season all but over.....Chelsea hopefully will seal it all today. Your visits to the stadium have produced some lovely portraits...this chap looks so kind and gentle, despite all the growth!

@ivan thanks Ivan, the off season is a welcome rest from the tension and 'joy' of the beautiful game

May 8th, 2015
Fantastic! You are nailing these ... what's your trick? Obviously NOT doing 365 of them.
May 10th, 2015
@sidecar thanks Carlita, I dunno what my trick is, I approach with a nice smile , preset my camera at about ISO 400, aperture priority, spot focus on the eyes and shoot about 5 shots . That's it really. The little 50mm lens really rocks :)
May 10th, 2015
@phil_howcroft ISO 400 ... is the 450 a full frame? Maybe I should up my ISO ...
May 11th, 2015
@sidecar the 450d is quite old carlita, it is not full frame. I use iso 400 because our weather in the UK is normally dull and cloudy, I also try to ensure their is no direct sunlight . Aperture wide open to get decent bokeh and fast shutter :-). I also tend to pick a black and white film emulator in my post processing (gmic filters via gimp ... Or the same film filters via rawtherapee). Ilford xp2 gives a nice conversion but there are loads to choose from :-)

I like this one. The details are really crisp and neat. I can't tell if he's enjoying having his shot taken or not - a bit half and half.
