50 mono portraits at 50mm : No. 35 : Outside His Dad's Gallery
This young man was stood outside his Dad's Art Gallery in Nottingham,
The gallery has some paintings on easels outside the gallery and this young man was drumming up custom.
I had a little chat with him and then asked if I could take his photo. He said "yes, I get quite a few requests for photos".
I could have done with a different backdrop to the shot, but the issue with taking street portraits is you are essentially stuck with where you are.
I attempted to adjust highlights / contrast / shadows / brightness to ensure his fabulous hair can be seen.
This started as a RAW file, edited with Rawtherapee with an Ilford XP2 film.
I shook his hand and thanked him for the shot and off I went to find Jane who was bargain hunting in M&S.
Hope you like my portrait number 35 in my series
BTW: Rawtherapee is a lossless editor. It achieves this by having some "sidecar files" that sit alongside your original file. The sidecar file tells the editor how to manipulate the image whenever you open it.
It does of course apply compression once you save as jpeg.
If you are geeky, the contents of my sidecar file are shown below:
Hehe - I'm definitely not geeky - in the slightest! But I do like your portrait and think this young man's hair must increase his height at least a few inches. Hope Jane got some good bargains in M&S!
p.s. I thought a sidecar was something that somebody sat in alongside a motor bike - but that's probably old -fashioned......
Cor - that is a lot of info - it took me ages to find the comment box!! I only use canon dpp that has come with the camera. If I ever get time one summer holiday I might try learning something else.
Meanwhile that is a fantasic portrait and a fav. Do people ever want a copy of the photo you took?
@bluerose15 I printed one for one of my football programme sellers. He didn't ask for it, I just thought he might like it. Other than that , no, I just take the pic and thank them. I have thought about getting some little "contact cards printed" and give them to them and ask them to email me if they want a copy.
@quietpurplehaze No bargains in M&S today Hazel, I am pleased you like my portrait :)
@alinz I'm with you Ali! It must be difficult getting the right settings but not taking too long with a street photo! Amazing hair - how does he comb it??
Does all that sting actually mean something to you Phil or are you just pretending.....I have rumbled you! Ha ha you are definitely a geek!!
Lovely portrait though!
Ha - I think that's the longest ever post! Must be funny being a repeat model for photographers. Have you had a similar situation before? I have a sense of déjà vu!
