100 Strangers : No. 99 : Dilk

Stranger 99 is Stephen, who I met outside his shop in Hockley on Wednesday.

Stephen runs and owns the Montana shop on Goose Gate, Nottingham. His shop supplies art materials, sells clothes and acts as an Art Gallery too. Stephen has owned the shop since 2008.

Wait a minute Phil, you are talking about Stephen, but your title says Dilk ! What's that all about?

Well, I didn't realise, until I got home and read Stephen's business card , that Stephen is also known as Dilk ... To quote from Dilk's website...Dilk is an...

"Internationally recognised Graffiti Artist, DILK, was born in Nottingham in the 70's. He has been painting since 1986, travelling the world to paint, promote and push graffiti forward. In 2002, he opened "Coverage" in Nottingham, one of the first graffiti art store in England and started giving graffiti-based work for organisations and companies. In 2008, Dilk then went on to open UK's first and only MONTANA COLORS store in Hockley"

So how did I miss that bit of info' when chatting to Stephen. Well I was a bit rushed as I was meeting my wife in a restaurant for lunch or maybe Stephen was a little modest.

If you want to see Dil's work, take a look at his website below

I took quite a few images of Stephen and decided on a mono shot as it has a bit of an urban feel to it, which goes with Stephen's artwork.

I am sure Stephen will appreciate that my post processing photo editing tools for this shot (well all my shots) are open source i.e. Darktable and GIMP.

Thanks for being stranger 99 Stephen and I hope you like the images I email to you.

This picture is number 99 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

This is a face with a lot of character. His art would fit right into our mural project in Richmond. Maybe one day he can visit.

Like the side-lighting and how you framed him...you have done so very well with this project...and I admire your ability to do this as well as the results.

A shy artist! He looks as if he's weighing you up, a sort of narrowing of the eyes! You
