Starbucks by phil_howcroft

Starbucks

It's dark when I go to work
It's dark when I get back from work
I'm at work in between
So here is a photo in the dark

Shot a few weeks ago when Arnold and District Camera Club went on a night shoot into Nottingham

Hand held, Sony A6000, edited in Darktable and GIMP

Probably best viewed large on black if you want to click through :)
Yes, it's good on black. It looks very busy!

I agree..super street shot...really like how you positioned this and kept those foreground shadows and glad you chose b&w. It does look great on black. You're inspiring to use the A6000 more (i've been sick for a week so gave up on learning....will get back to it now!)

Don't you hate that - to and fro in the dark. I don't see the garden for 5 days a week! Thanks for your love in the mist comment - always better in the mist - can't see what you're getting into! lol!

Fantastic capture, Phil. I feel sad for the lonely lady standing out there in the cold as if she's waiting for somebody to offer a warm drink. Fav.

Just had time to look again, Phil, and on black. It made me think immediately of Martin Parr and especially his photo in an ice cream parlour in New Brighton. http://www.anothermag.com/art-photography/8073/martin-parrs-last-resort. Yours is right up there. Fav!

@ivan Ivan thanks for your comment and the comparison to Parr. I am very honoured that you think so . I am familiar with the photo and do like it . Parr studies at MAnchester Poly and I have seen a photo he did at Burnden Park (the old ground of Bolton Wanderers)

Btw, I got the Sony 6300 just before we went to Holland etc end Sept. Like it a lot, though giving up the 30 year association with Pentax SLR kit was an emotional wrench.

Everyone inside in the warm drinking warm drinks apart from the poor girl outside who looks a bit chilly. Nice in b&w.

Nice shot, looks like Starbucks is a popular place

I guess that lady standing outside is huddled up against the cold but she looks so miserable and dejected. The people in the brightness and warmth of the cafe provide a contrast that serves to magnify her plight.

Lester used to complain about not seeing any daylight during the winter when he was at work and for over 3 years towards the end of his working life he was driving a 200-mile round commute every day, which made it even more 'fun'.

many interesting people to look at

@dulciknit Alison.i know about long commutes. For 14 years I was a freelance IT consultant ( sounds posh... a self employed IT Systems / Business Analyst. ... Very much the IT equivalent of the gig economy ) , travelling to work in Coventry/ Solihull / Warwickshire on a daily basis. Short Winter Days were always glum 😀
