Urban : Derelict by phil_howcroft

Urban : Derelict

This is some urban dereliction in Arnold, Nottingham.

This used to be the site of Nottinghamshire County Supplies. Schools. County Supplies is the main procurement service for all Local Government and Education establishments in Nottinghamshire. Open to all Public Sector Organisations, Public Funded Charities and Selected Profit Making Organisations in Nottinghamshire and Neighbouring Counties

County Supplies moved out of Arnold in 2013 leaving a derelict set of offices and warehouses. In the summer of 2017 there was a massive fire on the site, which ended up with the site being demolished , leaving just the concrete foundations of the massive site .

Notts County Council seem to have abandoned the site , other than stick up security fencing / I stuck my camera lens through the said fencing to capture this shot .

Quite a sad scene really, the lone tree among the concrete beds looking a little surreal !
It has an order to it in patterns. Very lovely tones !

I remember Arnold as the embodiment of Urban Dereliction! (I used to work there and know people who live there) Maybe we have different definitions of dereliction.... I might be thinking of its 'soul' which I failed to find! With luck there will be a tree/shrub takeover of this site in time. Have patience... you may be able to make a photo project showing its development if the Council don't ruin it!

@yrhenwr thanks david , i've lived in Arnold since 1984 , I think it's a good community to live in . Everyone seems to know each other :)
Where did you work ? The East Mids Electricity Board (EON) used to be a big employer back in the day

Well that’s a sorry sight indeed Phil. Crying out for attractive affordable housing instead of using so many green field sites. It’s a lovely photo, very gritty & great black & white! It must have been quite a change for those houses to lose that large building in front of them.

Your b&w shots are always wonderful, Phil. If that piece of empty space where in Malta hungry property speculators would be fighting like mad to get it.

Interesting...houses could be built there, brownfield site, not on green fields in the south! (As I just see Pat says).

I feel the urge to break up all the concrete and turn it into allotments! Looks perfect for it. Lovely mono

It looks very sad and I don't suppose the people in the houses opposite enjoy their view very much.
Makes a good b&w, though.

@casablanca What a great idea!

@casablanca @dulciknit Casa' / Alison, there;s a bot of a conflict here , we live in Gedling Borough Council and our local councillors want to do affordable housing / schools , whereas the land is owned by the County Council who are just sitting on it !
