It was Nottingham Carnival yesterday , it is a great street event to photograph.
It's actually quite a difficult event to photograph too as quite a lot of the parade is alongside the banks of the River Trent on the Embankment, which is a mature tree lines street under a canopy of leaves. The lighting is therefore a mixture of sun and shade.
The parade had started but there was a massive gap between the front 5 floats / troupes and the rest of the parade,
This man was playing his drum on his own.
"Where's your troupe gone too" I asked,
He said their wasn't meant to be such a large gap and he'd gone ahead to see what was happening,
I asked him for a photo and he played his drum . He is very much in the "drum playing zone" here and this has created a striking portrait
I decided to do a mono shot as there was very little colour in his outfit and hat and I feel mono has toned down the vibrant green trees and leaves.
great portrait and certainly black and white looks good. I like his look of concentration on something other than you and that fabulously photogenic beard.
