Bank Street , Bolton by phil_howcroft

Bank Street , Bolton

This is a shot from Saturday , when I had a couple of hours walking around the town centre, before watching the Wanderers.

I've not been in the town centre for many years.

This is Bank Street, just a hundred yards away from the junction of Bradshawgate, Deansgate and Churchgate, which are essentially 3 of the the main shopping and commerce streets of the town.

You drive up Bank street as you approach the town from the northern suburbs and outlying districts.

I was shocked how run down and derelict the street was. This is a derelict night club and a Lap Dancing club that probably hasn't seen a dance for some time, although the paint on the shutter says open weekends !

Anyway , Bank Street looks awful.

It does look rather neglected but has fine bones, as they say!

Many of our high streets are starting to look like this now. It’s very sad. Your photo has really captured the bleakness though.

It does look neglected and really suits b&w. Lovely capture. In which division are Bolton now?

It's fascinating, isn't it? Somewhere along the line, we lost the drive to take a pride in your surroundings, no matter how small or poor they were. I still remember growing up to women out every day scrubbing the doorsteps and polishing the red tiles on them. Everyone did it from the posh houses to the tiny ones. You kept your corner neat and took pride in it. But now you see homes and businesses without that pride and care in their fabric and environment. I am not sure when it changed, but it is a sad thing.

Oh dear, what a sorry sight! A very telling street comment image and the use of mono underlines the decrepitude of the environment.
Interesting how buddleia bushes manage to grow in the most unlikely, precipitous places; they are very determined plants!

A very sad sight! although Bolton isn’t that far away I have never been. I have a friend who shops there & she likes it. I don’t suppose she goes down here although it sounds like it’s not far from the main area. Northern towns....no wonder they voted Leave...a different world from the south & London! Yes they used to donkey stone their steps.... that community pride is sadly gone! @casablanca
