100 Strangers : Round 3 : No. 241 : Peter and Deborah (vintage Pentax Yashica ML 50mm f1.7 lens )
On Thursday, the first day of lockdown. I walked through Arnold town centre to see what shops were open. I was surprised to see how many “essential shops” were open e.g. a “vape shop” (yes I said “vape shop”) was open, although this could have been open because it was selling fireworks, another essential household item !
Anyway after Ruby and myself had walked through Arnold, I made my way to the Duck Park” to see how my vintage Yashica 50mm f1.7 lens would perform capturing the autumn glow.
As I mad my way around the Rose Gardens I saw a couple on a bench catching the last few rays of sunshine. I struck up a conversation with them asking how they were finding day one of lockdown. Deborah told me they were coping OK, they had been OK in our spring lockdown and would be OK now. We had a discussion about “essential shops” with me telling them how strange it was to see a “Vape Shop” open. “Obviously an essential item !!!” said Deborah
The sun was starting to set and both Peter and Deborah mentioned how wonderful the sunsets had been in the last few weeks. They live on high ground in Arnold (a lot of Arnold is on high ground, we live on a hill too) and get great vista’s of the sun sets and fireworks. “We don’t flood” said Peter. FYI the town centre has a tendency to flood when we have torrential downpours.
After our chats (all at a safe social distance) I asked them if they would sit for my 100 strangers project, some of you might say they were already sitting !!!!
I told them I was shooting with a vintage Japanese lens. I don’t know if Peter and Deborah were impressed with that fact. FYI I shot this with a vintage vintage Pentax Yashica ML 50mm f1.7 lens on my Sony A7.
I guess vape supplies are an essential item to those who use them!! I hate the things, they stink and the smell hangs around in the air long after the vaper has gone by.
Nice portrait and story, as always.
Don’t get me on the subject if essential shops Phil....only three shops in our village have shut out of thirteen businesses. The hairdresser, the beauty salon & the dress shop...every other one is open....I don’t blame them but shops that are classed as definitely non essential by name & have spent a fortune making their places covid safe have no option...it’s massively unorganised & stupid!
Anyhow we do our best & behave ourselves, good to meet people!
