My stranger portraits are out of sequence, I have one lady, Ni, who I have not posted yet, but I wanted to share this photo of Vicky as it is my first stranger portrait with my new lens, a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Di III RXD for SONY full-frame mirrorless cameras.
Meet Vicky, who was in a horsebox in Arnold today !
The horsebox was actually a bar, “The Bubble Box” from Yorkshire. The bar was like a front of house to the market stall of the same name. The stall and Vicky’s bar were selling Real Ales, Flavoured Vodka’s, Gins, Rum and Cocktails
When I first saw the horsebox with Vicky inside it I recognised the possibility of a cracking stranger photo. Vicky and her daughter (who was on the adjacent market stall) were selling some Gins to a couple of ladies. So I loitered around the area waiting for the transaction to be completed. By the time the transaction had been completed a man arrived on the scene, who seemed to know both ladies.
I approached the market stall and asked what they were selling.
“Booze” said the man who had just arrived on the scene “Lots of it, Flavoured Gins and much more”
“It says Yorkshire on the horsebox. Which part of Yorkshire are you all from”
“Doncaster”
“Not far away and Yorkshire , reads better than Doncaster” I said
We then had a conversation about the Doncaster / South Yorkshire area.
“Do I know you” the man said “Did you used to go in ‘The Maize’? It’s a bar in the centre of Nottingham, A music venue. I owned it for many years”
“No, I’ve never been in it”
“Well you look familiar, I’ve definitely seen you before, perhaps I saw you working the streets with your photography”
I then said I would like to photograph the horse box.
“Photograph whatever you like !”
I then approached Vicky in the horsebox and asked her if I could photograph her. I told her I was an amateur photographer.
My initial photos of Vicky were quite wide angle and the scene was quite cluttered with all the paraphernalia of the horsebox bar on show, which somewhat competed against Vicky.
I asked her to move closer to the bar and Vicky suggested she leant out a bit, while I zoomed into the 75mm end of my new lens.
The photo you see is the net result of the collaboration. Good isn’t it?
Vicky asked me if I was on Insta’ I told her I was and gave her a card with my contact details
My new lens did a decent job.
Thank you Vicky, for allowing me to photography you.

@allie912 Allison, Nottingham is in tier-3, which is the highest level of covid restrictions. I socially distance when taking photos on the street ...hands , face, space as the government tells us . The rules and guidelines are really confusing. We don't go anywhere other than shopping. This was shot at 75mm which allows me to social distance
