I took my Zeiss Loxia 35mm lens and Sony A7 into Arnold this afternoon (and my whippet puppy Elsie). The 35mm is quite wide and is a great street photography lens. We walked across the new market place and went behind Wilkos as it is a good urban setting.
I noticed a lady at the bus stop behind Wilkos, I also noticed from the LED display timetable that she had a long wait for the bus !
“Oh dear you have a long wait for the bus, 22 minutes for the 59 bus”
“Yes I know I got my timings wrong, at least I’m sat in the sun and the bus shelter stops the wind getting to me” (it was a really cold afternoon, the temperature just hovering above zero)
I had my camera hanging from my neck and pointed at the camera.
“I’m an amateur photographer, is it OK if I take a photo of the bus stop and you sat in it”
“Do you take photos of bus stops?”
I smiled to myself, I may be a geek and photograph some strange things, but I’ve not yet become a bush stop, bush shelter photographer.
“No, I am a street photographer, I photography street scenes and people I meet on the street”
“Yes OK then”
“I’m Phil, this is my dog Elsie”
“I’m Shirley, will I be on the television?”
“No, I will put the photo onto my 365 internet photo blog and onto Instagram, look at the photo, you are small in the frame”
I showed Shirley the photo and she gave me the nod of approval again. I bumped fists and thanked Shirley.
That was it photoshoot over, Shooting was tricky as Elsie, being a puppy was trying to eat anything she found on the floor near where I was kneeling. I knelt down to give the photo a move dynamic feel.
Ha , I like it -- "a bus shelter photographer"!!! at least she was quite happy to be photographed and most probably a few words with you to pass the time away!
Wow. I salute you that you continue on this journey. I don't think i have the guts to do it. And you are so good at it. And I can't imagine trying to keep a camera steady and a puppy contained.
Lovely sunny day. And a beautiful portrait shot of Shirley. If i were there I would have done like Shirley because I love the sun and look for every opportunity to sit down and enjoy its warmth.
You are an inspiration, I am planning to get my stranger project started my biggest challenge is the weather and I am not in a super populated area with people just hanging outside until the winter. Do you try to do inside shots as well and what may be some examples of where you can go and what type of gear would you bring - a regular camera or something small? I really don't want to start doing cell phone photos.
