Elsie and I were making our way back home from the Duck Park, walking by Wilkos in Arnold, when I noticed a lady buying lots of plants from the stalls outside the store.
I noticed she was wearing a fabulous outfit and hat, “yellow bee dungarees” and a “trilby with lots of pin badges”.
I approached her and asked what she’d been buying. I could see azaleas and camellia japonica in a big bunch of plants in her hands.
Anyway we had a chat about the plants and then I asked her if I could take her photo for my strangers project. She agreed without hesitation and I introduced myself and asked her name. “Bay Laurel” she told me .
“Ahh, so you are a gardener and you are Bay Laurel”.
“Yes, that’s right, I’m not joking”
Anyway I took some photos of Bay, with my Sony A6000 with a vintage Russian Industar N61 vintage lens and my Sony RX100VII.
I showed Bay some of my strangers photos on my phone, to reassure her I wasn’t dodgy ! She told me she had an Instagram account which showcased her dressmaking skills. She makes all her own dresses and outfits. I asked her if the dungarees she was wearing were her design. She said no , but her “tote” bag was her own design. Bay also told me she was know as the “teapot lady” where she lives in Sherwood, as her garden is full of teapot ornaments and also sprinkled with a few action men too.
I thanked Bay for letting me photograph her and wished her a lovely weekend
@casablanca thanks Casa, I'm not sure if it his her real name or her name for her dress making , either way she was great to meet and everyone knows her as the tea pot lady :)
@tinley23 thanks Lesley , it's a good back story for sure
