Maeinschein by phil_sandford

Maeinschein

Maeinschein = the wonderful German word that describes the 'green-gold' sunlight that falls through the young leaves of trees and woods in Spring/May (literally translated as May-Light and/or May-Shine)

The word is used rarely in German today, but is in a poem by Gerhart Hauptmann which runs;

"Ein Licht wie Gold, eine Brise wie Gras und
grünes 'maeinschein' brach in mein langweiliges,
ungewohnte Kammerschlag und Arbeit

"A light like gold, a breeze like grass and
green 'may-shine' broke into my boring,
unfamiliar chamber chiming and toiling"

(translated F Sievers)

I kind of think the photograph for today covers that wonderful German word rather well.

Thank you for your visits, comments and Favs for taking yesterday's swan to the TP and PP. Always very much appreciated and never taken for granted
A wonderful capture and great poem Phil! I was not aware that you spoke German ;-)

@ludwigsdiana Diana, lived in Berlin for 4 years in the 80s when in the British Army. My German then was 'conversational' but not that bad and since we left my vocabulary has diminished considerably. Te majority of the above came from our friend Herr Google
