Egyptian Hedgehog by phil_sandford

Egyptian Hedgehog

My mother visited Carole and I in Berlin a number of times in the 1980s when I was stationed there at the height of the Cold War and before the Wall fell. On one of these visits we had a cultural day and spent it in the Egyptian Museum where this was on display.

This is a replica of the “Figurine of a hedgehog. Model of a hedgehog from Tomb 416 at Abydos, made out of Egyptian faience. Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty, ca. 1877-1786 BC.” The website today states that it is now in the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford.

My mother bought this from the gift shop and left it to me in her will; it normally sits on the sideboard in the dining room; don’t believe it’s ever appeared in a 365 album until today.

Its true colour version is in my extras album

Thanks for dropping by
Looks great in B&W, too.

Great depth of field and that subtle shadow certainly grounds the shot.

It makes a beautiful b&w with all that detail, but the blue is very special.
