the old miners welfare

I believe this used to be the miners welfare club,. It has been like this for ages, but it is situated in a fantastic spot if you like a sea view. the car park is all that is between you and the Irish Sea. the railway runs directly behind the building, which we jokingly call the express train, that tootles around the west coast from Lancaster to Carlisle just a few times a day . The headland you can see in the distance is St Bees Head.
Nicely captured!!

Reviving memories again I think - we went to St Bees once, and a place called Ravenglass.

Great shot. Are any mines left working today?

@ceilidh no Margaret they have all closed in this area. The only large employer, apart from tourism, here is Sellafield Nuclear site which deals with spent fuel from around the world and is being decommissioned. My husband tells me that the coast was dotted with coal pits with the tunnels/ coal seams went out under the sea.
