contemplations among the graves of bunhill fields in north london, the final resting place of various famous people, including daniel defoe, john bunyan and william blake. the name derives from 'bone hill', which is possibly a reference to the district having been used for occasional burials from at least saxon times, but more probably derives from the use of the fields as a place of deposit for human bones—amounting to over 1,000 cartloads—brought from st paul's charnel house in 1549 when that building was demolished. i'm out and about in the big smoke with my sons - always a pleasure

decided that, after five-and-a-half years on this fabulous site, I should say a little more about myself than the two sentences...
It is a great little burial ground isn't it. Just doors up from my first job in the City many years ago. I was in Finsbury Square. I love just how much of the burial ground you manage to show here without taking away from the proud as punch pigeon on his pedestal.
