Secrets and lies

The main building in this photograph is the mansion, Bletchley Park, home of the British codebreakers in World War 2. For the entire duration of the war, nobody outside the park knew what was going on here. Teams of codebreakers worked around the clock, breaking codes transmitted by the German military. These codes were intecepted and, once translated, revealed the movements of the German forces. The 2001 film "Enigma", starring Kate Winslet and Dougray Scott was filmed here. A captured German code-generating Enigma machine is on display to visitors.

The pic inset into the top left hand corner is one of the many huts on the site where the codebreakers worked. The world owes a huge debt to the men and women that worked in these humble buildings. Their work shortened the war, and may have made the difference between victory and defeat. After the war, Churchill described Bletchley Park as "The goose that laid the golden eggs, but never cackled!"
Great shot and super information.

Haven't they just restored hut 11? This is definitely on my list of places to visit

@taz_o There's a huge amount of restoration going on at the moment. I hope they don't go too far-much of Bletchley Park has been untouched since the war and it's shabbiness has an appealing quality. A lot of the site has been closed off while the work takes place so it might be worth waiting until it's complete

The treatment of Alan Turing in the post war years was a national disgrace.
I hope he is commemorated in the new restoration.
