Rockton World's Fair Mural

There's a little community between here and Hamilton called Rockton. With a population measured in the lower half of the triple digits, it's quiet and sleepy 51 weekends a year, but on Thanksgiving weekend it's overflowing as approximately 50,000 people go to the fair over the long weekend (Thanksgiving is the 2nd Monday of October in Canada)!

The Rockton World's Fair is a pretty regular fall fair, I think, but it's quite old for this area, having started in 1852, and obviously very popular. A local woman speaking to newspaper reporters in the 1870s said "It should be called the World's Fair, since all the world comes to it." The next morning the term was used in the newspaper headlines, and the name has stuck ever since!
I have never heard of this before. Thanks for sharing this information and the beautiful mural. Fav
