I've posted here before about "BK Thursday," but here's a brief history of our weekly date:
When we were dating, Christopher changed jobs. He was in his early 20s, living on his own for the first time, and the change made Thursday his busiest day of the week. Thursday was already my busiest day of the week, so the two combined made it hard to see each other that day and we decided we should make a point of setting aside a bit of time to spend together at some point on Thursdays. That first week we decided on lunch, and since it was quick and easy and I wanted poutine that day, we ended up at our local Burger King. One of us brought a newspaper, and we decided to do the crossword while we had lunch together. That was nice, and without specifically intending for Burger King and the crossword in our local paper to become the default plan on Thursdays, it did. This week marks 12 years of it! We now use crossword books as the local paper doesn't publish a print version anymore, and it's not a lunch thing anymore (generally) but setting aside time to do a crossword together and eat something from Burger King is still what we do every Thursday.
We revisited BK Thursday in general when we got married because it was our weekly date and we wouldn't be a "dating" couple anymore... But Chris thought it would be important that we keep "dating each other" after getting married so it stayed, and by coincidence the location most convenient for our first married BK Thursday was the world's largest one, in Amsterdam. Now we've done BK Thursday in 4 countries (Canada, Netherlands, USA, Jamaica), which includes a few different provinces and states, and lots of different cities in our own province.
Since today marked the anniversary of our BK Thursdays (second Thursday in December), I opted for poutine again. When I lifted my last bite out of the carton, the melted cheese stretched down in such a way as to make a heart! And since I habitually take pictures of accidental/natural hearts, that seemed perfect! When I came on 365 I saw that the new BLD challenge theme is National Foods, and my poutine heart became even more perfect!
So, what is poutine? It's a Canadian food that came out of the province of Quebec sometime in the 1950s. It's spread across the country now; you can find it in all kinds of restaurants and it seems to have countless variations-- there are even whole restaurants, called poutineries, that serve only (or at least mostly) different types of poutine-- but the original version consists of just fries, cheese curds, and hot gravy.
This photo didn't get as much of the food itself in it as I thought it had, but I will tag it for BLD anyway, because why not?
Such a lovely read, it’s really wonderful to read the love that you two share. I’ve said this before I know… laugh, listen and enjoy every moment is special…
