I've decided to participate in Single Subject April again this year, though I've chosen a rather broad subject with my theme of Sacred Places. Expect a lot of church architecture photos, but not exclusively-- I also hope to photograph some places from other faiths/traditions.
To start the month off, this is St. Andrew's Hespeler Presbyterian Church here in Cambridge, Ontario. The current building was constructed in the early 1900s; the date on the cornerstone is 1908. This was my mother's childhood church, and the church where my parents were married. My own family did not attend this church, but my elementary school used it for choral performances at least a few times a year. I must have sung there a couple of times myself before my dad chose this church as the place for my mum's funeral (I think he thought it was fitting for her life; plus it was bigger than our church). When I grew up it eventually became Christopher's and my wedding church too. When I was little, the roof of the main building was black like the roof of the steeple, I think, and the inside was done in blue tones-- I was a bit sad to see that it had been redone in browns at some point in between my childhood times there and my wedding-- but other than that, it hasn't changed much in my life!
