This weekend we have windmill weekend . Many windmills are in use/at work and open for visit.
To all, thanks for you visits and comments this week , have a nice weekend.
To all Mothers, have a great Mother-day. You deserve it.
Wonderful collage of this 1704 windmill, i have always found windmills fascinating and lonely, as we have some smaller one out in the middle of the southwest grazing lands that pump water into large tubs for the grazing cattle to drink from...are they used for other purposes in Holland?
The country of windmills !
I wonder how old is the oldest windmill there?
Our farmhouses have had also small windmills both for grinding cereal and for raising water in old days. Our country has not been so windy than yours.
But this windmill in your photo could tell many stories to us, fine collage, Pyrrhula!
Windmills we know from about the year 1100. the first looks like the mill I`ve pic on 12-16-2011. ( Type ; Open standaarmolen )
Windmills are in fact old workshops. They are used for many purposes suchs as pomping water.(Watermolen ) ( A great deal of our country will be water if we don`t ) A lot of mills are use for grinding and husk corn . ( Korenmolen , Pelmolen )Timber sawing mills ( zaagmolen) In those days we cold build a ship in 1/10 of the time and price as other countries did. ( for that we could sail to the east. )We did have windmills for manufacture Paper, Oil, Pigments (dye) and Tobacco snuff. I sure forget a few.
Me hartely''k dank for Muttertag. here again an astounding job on the collage of the windmills. so beautiful. this must be a great time to visit Holland.
