This church is one of the stops on :The Camino de Santiago (Latin: Peregrinatio Compostellana, also known by the English names Way of St. James, St. James's Way, St. James's Path, St. James's Trail, Route of Santiago de Compostela, and Road to Santiago, is the name of any of the pilgrimage routes, known as pilgrim ways, to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried. Many follow its routes as a form of spiritual path or retreat for their spiritual growth. It is also popular with hiking and cycling enthusiasts as well as organized tours.
This still will be done, a (girl)friend of us did this several years ago on a ordinairy bike (Opoe fiets)
Interesting that there would be a sign for this in your "neck of the woods". I watched a movie called "The Way" starring Martin Sheen that shows an account of him making this pilgrimage. Thanks for shairing this.
How wonderfully interesting this was to read! We were in Santiago de la Compostela on May 1st of 2011, but when I went to see what I posted, it seems like I must have taken a break from 365 for a few months! It was a wonderful experience, and a beautiful town...really an interesting and rich biblical history. I would love to return...also because we love visiting Spain, but who knows if we ever will... Glad we had our opportunity!
