Some time I posted a shot of a windmill in Malta and you pointed out that while the one I posted had five 'arms' yours had four. And this is a fine example of Dutch windmills. Love how you silhouetted it in the cloudy sky.
@Weezilou I`ve mixed feelings. Love them too as workplaces artifacts but to day they are tourist temples. The adoration goes much beyond acceptable for me. To maintain them cost us a lot of tax money. But the worst is that the needed surounding is n`t anymore. Like an old farmhouse preserved in the growing city.
@pyrrhula That's interesting to read. I understand your mixed feelings! Personally, I truly hate the look of the "modern" wind powered turbines with their pointed blades! I find them an offensive obtrusion on our landscapes, and I question that they do much good (at taxpayer expense!) So, to see the charming beauty of your old windmills, and even the old windmills on farms in the American midwest, now there's a beauty in symmetry in those and they're still pleasing to the eye. For me, seeing the old images is nostalgia.
