We are alway`s in struggle with water : On the news to day:
Cabinet allocates 75 million to healthier Grevelingenmeer
THE HAGUE - There will be an opening in the Brouwersdam, so that an open connection between the Grevelingenmeer and the North Sea will be created again. Fish and plants therefore get more oxygen. In addition, there are opportunities for the construction of a tidal power plant. In order to be able to make the connection, the Cabinet deducts 75 million euros.

The ministers Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (VVD, Infrastructure and Water Management) and Carola Schouten (Christian Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality) announced this on Wednesday morning. After the Grevelingen was completely closed off from the North Sea in the seventies, there is no more ebb and flow in the Grevelingen. The deeper parts are virtually oxygen-free. That is bad for soil life, lobsters, fish and recreation.
The solution: make an opening in the Brouwersdam. Then sea water washes through the lake and the tide can be used to generate energy. Cost: 139.5 million. Despite contributions from the rich and the region, there was a deficit of 75 million euros. After years of talking`s, the cabinet now adjusts that amount.
Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen: ,, We have made the Netherlands safer against the dangers of high water. In the coming years, we will jointly invest together in order to bring water quality and nature in the large waters up to standard again. With measures that make ebb and flow possible, there will be enough oxygen in the Grevelingen and we will improve biodiversity. ''
Extra purificationIn total, the government is allocating 275 million euros for improvements. In addition to raising the water quality and nature in the Grevelingen and Ems-Dollard, investments are also being made in extra treatment at sewage treatment plants to prevent medication residues, micro plastics and other undesirable chemicals from ending up in nature and water. Measures are also being developed to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture on nature and water quality.
Flakkeese Spuisluis (Lock)At the end of May last year, a first step was taken to improve the quality of the largest saltwater lake in Western Europe. The Flakkeese Spuisluis (Lock) at Bruinisse was reopened for this purpose. As a result, fresh water flows into the Grevelingen lake every day. But the greatest benefit is expected from a passage in the Brouwersdam.
Gosh so much money spent on controlling water. We are surrounded by sea water; we have little rain and natural water would have been very scarce for the population. We have reverse osmosis plants to convert sea water to good drink water to survive.
