The tower was originally built in 1470 as a brick church tower of the Sint Willibrordus-church. In 1817, a light was placed on this with a red colored superstructure after a design by J. Valk. In 1831 the church was destroyed by fire, only the tower remained intact. The tower consists of six floors and has a height of 53 meters. The lighthouse is at the beginning of the main street called the Zuidstraat, is unmanned and open to the public at regular intervals. The public can then climb the tower to the roof. The red colored superstructure with the optic in it is not accessible to the public.
In 1910, the lighthouse on canvas was recorded by Dutch painter Piet Mondrian during his period in Domburg. See: insert.

Oh Ferry, I KNEW that gorgeous painting had to be by someone well-known! How lovely it is! A favorite for two nice pictures and some interesting information!
The lighthouse narrative was interesting and the picture shows well.
