Tempory a lake

This is no more. The farmer has flooded this piece of land to get rid of harmful nematodes. He used to use poison but that is no longer allowed. Now he puts it under water for +/- half a year to get rid of them.
I think that’s a good plan and less harmful than chemicals to the environment

@tinley23 Yes. But he has no harvest/income this season.

It is such a shame that the farmers income is affected by the need not to use chemicals. However it is definitely a win for the land. I hope in time the farmers find a way to adapt and that their future crops are plentiful for them.

Is this water pumped in from the ocean? if not it becomes quite costly for the farmer.

@bruni No, you can `t use salt water. The dept is less than one foot.

That is a really interesting way to deal with a pest. It seems to take a long time though to get rid of a worm/nematode. But then I guess they are not totally adverse to water. Good shot.

oh boy, what a loss for this farmer. Interesting I didn't know this.

Like this in grey scale.

Oh my. That is interesting.

Something new to me as well, such a pity for the loss of income though.

Never seen this before. I guess local farmers cannot do that because the Mediterranean Sea surrounding our islands is salty. There is a lot of professionalism among your farmers in what they do to their land.

I see our fields flooded sometimes but never for that long so I have no idea why they do it. That is very interesting. Thank you!

very moody day! flooding fields, that is something new!
What birds are those in the field/water

It must be hard on the farmer to lose the use of this land for so long.

It is best to avoid using chemicals where possible, but this is a very expensive way for the farmer to get rid of a pest. A very interesting shot.

@ninaganci Most are gulls. But I see (less) ducks and goosses too.

Got to be better than poison! Interesting capture

Very interesting solution.

Interesting land management. And a new concept for me. I like all the bird life that seems to enjoy it.
