a long way down

The late afternoon sun was casting long shadows when we stopped for a snack and a walk along the top of the cliffs at Beachy Head.

The makeshift crosses are in memory of loved ones who somehow found the courage, in their desperation, to end it all by jumping off the cliff here.

A car, marked along its side, and in large letters, with the words Beachy Head Chaplaincy, was cruising back and forth along the nearby road.
Such a sad scene.

A wonderful sight of sky and sun with its beautiful reflection on the calm sea Hazel , but marred by the crosses reminding us of the many tragedies at this spot .

What a moving scene. The presence of the car makes it all the more poignant. I remember when we were in Anglesey bird watching on a cliff a woman came quietly and placed some flowers right on the edge of the cliff where we were sitting. How desperate.

As if the light of the Lord is guiding people too.

Beautiful image, but a tragic place. The reflection of the sun is wonderful.

The sky and sun are wonderful, but such a sad place.

What a beautiful, but at the same time sad, scene. It is tragic that people can feel so alone and desperate, that they feel is is their only choice.

Lovely view but isn't it sad that people get so desperate they have to jump.

I went here years ago and it is a lovely spot and very high. I couldnt believe how tiny the lighthouse looked way down in the sea. A lovely capture with the crosses and the beautiful sky door. A sad place to visit but good that there is some help out there.

This is such a lovely viewpoint and yes very sad for people who are so desparate they end it here. I hope the car manages to help a few.
